PRISCILLA KEITH DIES

Priscilla Moore Keith, long-time resident of Madison county, died at the Greene county hospital at Jefferson Sunday evening, July 7 at the age of 90 years.

The deceased was the daughter of Peter and Magala Ann Moore. She was born in Aurora, Ill., Feb. 18, 1849, but came to Madison county with her parents when she was three years of age. In 1881 she was married to Michael Keith, and they lived in this county until 1923, when they moved to Jefferson. "Grandma" Keith, as she was familiarly known, lived in this county for 71 years.

She was a member of the Christian church. Her husband preceded her in death, June 5, 1936, and she is survived by their adopted son, Thomas Keith, her brother, Tom Moore of Winterset, seven grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, most of whom live near Jefferson.

Funeral and burial services were held at Jefferson, Tuesday, July 9. Those driving from here to attend the services were as follows: Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Moore, Mr. and Mrs. Andy Sawyers, Mr. and Mrs. Clair Sawyers, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Moore, and Mr. and Mrs. Nels Epperson.

Elderly Woman Dead

Mrs. Priscilla Keith, 91, a resident of the county for 16 years, died at the Greene county hospital here last Sunday. Her funeral was held at Slininger’s funeral home today at 2:30 with Rev. Arnold Folden in charge. She is reported to have been the oldest woman in Jefferson. The pall bearers were John Stougard, Alpha Pulliam, Carl Stodgsdill, William T. Dowd, Ralph Annunzio and I. G. Gumm. Burial was at the Jefferson cemetery.

Mrs. Keith was born Feb. 18, 1849, in Kendall county, Illinois, the daughter of Peter and Mahala Ann Moore. In 1881 at Madison county, Iowa, she was married to Michael Keith, who preceded her in death. Left to mourn her death are Thomas B. Keith, her son; Thomas L. Moore of Winterset, a brother; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Priscilla Keith, 91, Rites Held Tuesday

Funeral services for Priscilla Keith, 91, were held from the Slininger chapel at 2:30 p. m. July 9. Rev Arnold Folden, pastor of the Church of God in Jefferson, officiated at the services. Lavetta Lieberknecht and Pearl Orin sang during the services and Mrs. Wayne Lieberknecht accompanied at the piano. The pallbearers were John Stougard, Carl Stogsdill, Alpha Pulliam, William T. Dowd, Ralph Annunzio and I. A. Gumm. Burial was made in the Jefferson cemetery.

Sunday evening, July 7, 1940, at Greene county hospital at 9:45 the spirit of Priscilla Keith went back to God who gave it, and as we pause to pay our last respect and esteem to “Grandma,” as she was known by all, we can rejoice to know she was ready and praying earnestly to go to be with her Savior, and her companion who departed June 5, 1936.

Priscilla Moore, daughter of Peter and Mahala Ann Moore, was born in Aurora, Ill., Feb. 18, 1849. She came to Madison county in 1852 at the age of three with her parents. In 1881 she was united in marriage to Michael Keith. She came to Jefferson in 1923. At the age of 14 she was united with the Christian church.

“Grandma” leaves to mourn her departure, one adopted son, Thomas Keith, seven grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and one brother, Tom Moore. All live in the vicinity of Jefferson. She also leaves many relatives and friends.
