BERNARD JOHNSON RITES HELD MONDAY

Young Man Succumbed Last Friday After Extended Illness

Bernard T. Johnson, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Johnson of Winterset, died at the Mercy hospital in Des Moines last Friday afternoon, four weeks after undergoing an operation for a brain tumor. He was 24 years of age.

The young man had spent most of his life in this community, and was well and favorably known here. He was born on a farm in Union township and came to Winterset with his parents a number of years ago. He attended the schools here, and graduated from the Winterset high school with the class of 1932. He later attended business school in Des Moines, and for the past five years had been employed in the district headquarters of the Civilian Conservation corps in Des Moines.

He was to have been married in September to Miss Mary Mihalovich of Des Moines.

He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. C. Johnson; two brothers, Jack and Ralph Johnson; a sister, Ruth Johnson; all of Winterset; and another sister, Mrs. T. R. Swaine of Los Angeles, Cal.

Funeral services were held Monday with requiem high mass from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. William Hahessy, assisted by the Rev. M. J. Aspenwall of Des Moines. Mass was sung by St. Joseph's junior choir. Burial was at Winterset cemetery.
