Death of Silas McClintic

Silas McClintic, a pioneer monumental dealer of Winterset, died Thursday, March 7th at his home on North First street at the age of 80 years with pneumonia. He had been ill for only a short time and his death came as a shock to Winterset friends.

The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Lorenzo McClintic and was born in Keokuk county, May 20, 1848. When but a small boy, the family moved to Warren county, where he resided until he was 26 years of age. It was at this place that he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Gunlock, and they moved to Winterset to make their home. Immediately upon his arrival here he associated in business with his father, who was the pioneer monumental manufacturer and continued at that work until his retirement several years ago. Their shop was on North First street where the Farmers Elevator now stands.

The McClintics had five children; Gilbert Alvord, deceased; Mrs. C. C. Day of Paso Robles, California, Mildred of Denver; Dale Edgar of Spencer and Rex of Coon Rapids. Besides Mrs. McClintic and four children, Mr. McClintic leaves a brother and sister in Oregon; one sister in California; one sister in Oklahoma and one brother, in Warren county, and ten grandchildren.

Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the First Baptist church here, conducted the funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Saturday, March 9th at 2:30 o,clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Silas W. McClintic

Silas W. McClintic, son of Lorenzo Dow McClintic and Amanda Hart McClintic, was born in Keokuk county, Iowa, May 20, 1848 and died at Winterset March 1929.

When but a small boy, he moved with his parents to Warren county, where he resided until he was 26 years of age. It was at this place that he was united in marriage to Miss Catherine Gunlock, and to this union were born five children, Gilbert Alvord, deceased; Mrs. C. C. Day of Paso Robles, California; Mildred of Denver, Colorado; Dale Edgar of Spencer and Rex of Coon Rapids, who with the widow survive. In addition to these relatives of the immediate family is one sister and one brother in Warren county and ten grandchildren.

About 55 years ago, Mr. McClintic moved to Winterset, where he resided up to the time of his death. Immediately upon his arrival here he associated in business with his father, who was the pioneer monumental manufacturer, which work he engaged in continuously until his retirement several years ago. He was an expert workman.

Early in life he accepted Jesus Christ as his Saviour whom he loved and trusted through the whole of his long life. He united with the Baptist church of this place and has since then been a faithful member.

Mr. McClintic was a man of keen intellect, a student, not only of books, but of human nature and a great lover of nature, especially of plants and flowers. His ability to cultivate the latter was known over the entire community and every year saw an increased beauty in the plants and flowers he lovingly nurtured.

Funeral services were held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home and were conducted by the Rev. John T. Hall, pastor of the First Baptist church. Interment was in the Winterset cemetery.
