Claude Hope Succumbs at Age of 32 at Veterans' Hospital
Claude A. Hope, young Winterset man, died last Thursday at the Veterans' hospital in Des Moines after years of failing health. He was 32 years of age.
Mr. Hope had spent most of his life in this community. He was born at Republican City, Neb., on Jan. 3, 1908. As a small child he came with his parents to Winterset, and with the exception of a few years in Kansas, this community had always been his home.
He attended the Winterset high school, and at the age of 19 years he enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Corps at Chanute field, Rantoul, Ill. He graduated from the air school there in 1928, but his health began to fail at this time, and he was honorably discharged that fall.
He is survived by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Hope of near Winterset; and nine brothers and sisters: Drene McCollum, Ralph Hope, Helen Tolly, Dorothy Bush, all of Winterset, and Gertrude, Harold, Leland, Donald, and Edna Hope, all at home.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Adnerson home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. Tom Foglesong, pastor of the Church of Christ.
