Page 1Death of Mrs. Martha Rowe
Mrs. Martha Rowe, a lifelong resident of Madison county, died at her home in the northeast part of Winterset, Friday, September 27th after an illness of two months. Mrs. Rowe became ill with paralysis tow months ago and her condition gradually went down. She had a stroke last Tuesday and she never regained consciousness.
Mrs. Rowe who was nearly 70 years of age, was a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Walker of Peru. She was married to Phillip J. Rowe, October 22, 1875. They moved to Winterset forty years ago and had lived in the present Iowa home for the past 22 years. Mr. Rowe died in 1926.
The deceased is survived by seven children; Rebecca and Joe at home; Thomas of Cumming; R. B. Rowe of Indianola; Mrs. M. L. Baird of Rockford, Illinois; Mrs. Will Henry of Winterset and Mrs. James Van Arsdel of Davenport. She also leaves five grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. J. W. Howe of Truro and a brother, Rufus Walker of Akron, Colorado.
The Rev. A. P. Keast conducted the funeral services at Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Sunday, September 29th at 2 o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Martha Jane Walker, daughter of Rebecca and William Walker was born near Peru, Iowa, October 18th, 1859, and passed away at her home, September 27, 1929. She was united in marriage to Phillip J. Rowe, October 22, 1875, he having preceded her in death November 13, 1926.
Eight children came to gladden this home. They are all living but one, a daughter, Minnie, who died May 12, 1887. The children are as follows; Rebecca and Joe at home; Mrs. Will Henry of Winterset; Thos. P. Rowe of Cumming; H. B. Rowe of Indianola; Mrs. M. L. Baird of Rockford, Illinois and Mrs. James Van Arsdel of Davenport; also five grandchildren; Roberta Joe Rowe, Mrs. Francis O. Mason, Mary Jane Rowe, Lowell Janney and Mrs. Don Baylor. One sister, Mrs. J. W. Howe of Truro and one brother Rufus W. Walker of Akron, Colorado, also survive.
Mrs. Rowe was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church, a charter member of the American Legion Auxiliary and the W.C.T.U. She had lived near Winterset her entire life.
