Death of Mrs. Isabel Turner

Mrs. Isabel Turner, who had been ill for many months at the home of her daughter, Mrs. H. N. Shaw, died early Sunday morning, March 3rd. She was 83 years of age and was a daughter of Phillip and Margaret Spurgin. Mrs. Turner was born in Sullivan county, Tennessee, January 27, 1846 and came with her parents by boat on the Ohio river and then on the Mississippi to Burlington and from there by covered wagon to Salem, in Henry county. Later, the family moved to Warren county, where her father helped to lay out the town of Indianola. From there the family moved to Walnut township, Madison county, where they made their home.

December 25, 1867, she was married to Alfred Turner, who passed away April 8, 1920. To them were born five children, all of whom survive their parents, except Arthur who died in 1896. She leaves Mrs. Ida Patterson of Emporia, Kansas; Mrs. Rose Shaw of Winterset; Effie Turner of Minneapolis and H. A. Turner of Lockridge. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren and four brothers and sisters; Mrs. Ella Ellis of Afton; Joseph Spurgin of Madison county; Sinclair Spurgin of Caldwell, Idaho and Mrs. Joseph Harrell of this county.

The Rev. F. Clare McCallon, pastor of the church of which Mrs. Turner was a member conducted the funeral services at the Shaw home Monday, March 4th at 3 o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
