Page 1Death of George Yates
George Yates, who had been a resident of this county for over fifty years, died Sunday, September 22, at his home, southeast of Winterset. Mr. Yates was 80 years of age and had been ill during the past three weeks.
The deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Yates and was born near Edmonton, Kentucky, February 2, 1849. He was married to Melissa H. Moran, January 9, 1870 and they came to Iowa the following year. Mrs. Yates died in 1927. He is survived by his son, Henry and by three grandsons.
The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, conducted the funeral services at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, Tuesday morning, September 24th and burial was made in the Rock City cemetery.

George W. Yates, son of Mr. and Mrs. Alpha Yates was born near Edmonton, Kentucky February 2, 1849 and passed away at his home east of Winterset September 22, 1929, ten minutes of 2 o'clock at the age of 80 years, 7 months and 20 days.
He was united in marriage to Melissa H. Moran of Edmonton, Kentucky, January 9, 1870. They came to Iowa January 9, 1871. To this union was born one son, Henry Lee Yates. His wife preceded him in death January 30, 1927.
He was a patient sufferer through his last sickness, which lasted three weeks. He was a lover of his home and flowers.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his son, Henry, three grandsons, Nestor, Ray and Roy, and five great grandchildren, and one brother and other relatives in Kentucky. Also kind neighbors, who helped care for him in his last sickness.
