George Hartfield, who has been in poor health for some time, died at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Monday morning, Sept. 9, at the age of 41 years. He had been suffering with a brain tumor and complications.
His funeral services were held at the United Presbyterian church in St. Charles this morning at 10 o'clock and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery near Patterson.
Mr. Hartfield is survived by his mother, Mrs. Jane Hartfield, a brother, T. J. Hartfield of Prole and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rhodes and Mrs. Rachel Dorrell of Winterset.
Mr. Hartfield was an ex-soldier and served in the 15th U.S. Infantry service in China.

George W. Hartfield, 41-year-old resident of St. Charles, died in the Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Monday of last week.
He is survived by his mother; one brother, T. J. Hartfield of Bevington and two sisters, Mrs. Anna Rhoads and Rachel Dorrell of Winterset.
Funeral services were held in the United Presbyterian church in St. Charles, conducted by the pastor, Rev. J. M. Baird, on Wednesday, Set. 11. Burial was made in Mount Pelier cemetery near Patterson. Comrades of the American Legion Post of Winterset and Veterans of Foreign Wars of St. Charles were in charge of the ceremonies at the cemetery.
George William Hartfield was born in Crawford township near Bevington Aug. 27, 1899. He died at the age of 41 years and 13 days. When about five years of age his parents moved to a farm near St. Charles where he grew to manhood. Later he moved to St. Charles to make his home with his mother.
He joined the United States army in 1927, serving about 14 months in China.
