MRS. KURTZ DIES FROM INJURIES IN ACCIDENT

Daughter of C. C. Klingaman Is Fatally Hurt in Train Crash

Mrs. Frederick Kurtz, a former resident of Winterset and a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Klingaman of Webster township died Monday noon, December 16 at the Broadlawn hospital in Des Moines, from injuries received in an automobile accident. Mrs. Kurtz, who previous to her marriage was Miss Esther Klingaman, received a fractured skull and a broken arm and a broken leg, when the car in which she was riding ran into a Great Western freight train at South Twenty-first street, last Thursday night. It is stated that neither the driver nor the occupants of the car saw the moving train, because of the fog. The car was demolished but Mrs. Kurtz was the only member of the group who was seriously injured. Her girl friend received slight bruises. She was taken to the Broadlawn hospital, where she had since been treated, but the fracture of the skull caused her death.

Mrs. Kurtz who was 25 years of age, was born July 6, 1904. She attended the Winterset schools and was graduated from the local high school in the class of 1924. She attended the Chillicothe Business college at Chillicothe, Missouri and was graduated from there. She was employed at one time in the county clerk's office and went from here to Shenandoah, where she did stenographic work in both the Field and May Seed companies.

Her marriage to Mr. Kurtz took place over a year and a half ago and since that time they have made their home in Rockport, Missouri. Several weeks ago, she came to Des Moines, to visit with friends and had planned to come to Winterset the Tuesday preceding the accident. Because of the mud roads, however, she remained in Des Moines.

The Rev. A. P. Keast, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted the funeral services at the church on East Jefferson street, Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

Esther is survived by her parents, her husband, two sister, Ora and Ethel, and four brothers, Joseph, Emory, George and Irvin.
