Wednesday, December 11, 1940FORMER WINTERSET RESIDENT DIES AT CALDWELL, IDAHO
Nelson Clark Gordon, son of Newton and Charlotte Clark Gordon died at his home in Caldwell, Idaho Nov. 23, 1940 at the age of 72 years. On Feb. 28, 1940, as he walked along Main street, he was knocked down by a sign, which a high wind blew loose from a building he was passing, inflicting injuries from which he never fully recovered, according to word received here.
Nelse, as he was always known, was born at Winterset, Aug. 11, 1868. In 1904 he moved to Caldwell, and for 36 years was one of Caldwell's prominent business men. For several years he was in partnership with his brother-in-law, Clark Adams. After Mr. Adams' death he continued the work alone.
He is survived by his wife, the former Mary E. Bass of Winterset, two daughters, Mrs. R. V. Andersen of Caldwell, Mrs. C. N. Watts of San Jose, Cal., three brothers, N. D. Gordon of Indianola, William and Arthur Gordon of Winterset, one sister, Mrs. J. F. Turner of Winterset, and two grandchildren in Caldwell.
Funeral services were held Nov. 25th at the Peekham funeral chapel. The Rev. H. H. Haymen of the College of Idaho officiating. Officers of the Caldwell Masonic lodge conducted ritualistic graveside services. Burial was made in the Canyon Hill cemetery in Caldwell.
Mrs. N. C. Gordon's brother, Frank Bass, another former Winterset resident, died in Caldwell, Idaho Sunday, Dec. 1st. Mr. Bass had moved to Idaho 25 years ago and had resided in the west since that time.
