Thursday, December 19, 1929Samuel D. Koser
Samuel David Koser, son of William and Sarah Koser, was born January 22, 1858 at Mount Carmel, Illinois, where he grew to manhood. He was the youngest in a family of twelve children and spent a happy childhood with his brothers and sisters, among whom there was a very close bond of love and mutual interest that existed as long as life.
In February 1880 he with his two brothers, William and Charles came to Madison county and soon established the firm of Koser Brothers. In 1891 William, the eldest brother, withdrew from the partnership, while Charles and Samuel successfully rounding out a most unusual business career of almost a half century, had hoped and planned to celebrate their golden jubilee anniversary on March 17, 1930.
On November 17, 1881, he was united in marriage with Mary Alice Mendenhall. To this union were born three daughters, Beulah, Loraine and Alice.
A high ideal of business integrity and fairness governed his attitude toward others, while no worthy cause failed to evoke a generous response from him.
Always appreciative of the least favor or kindness shown him or his loved ones, he was especially so during his last illness from which death released him on December 15, 1929.
He is survived by his widow, his three daughters, Mrs. Lawrence Enright and Mrs. Bird Miles of Chicago and Mrs. Elton Woody of Winterset; three grandchildren, David and Barbara Miles and Billy Woody; one brother, Charles Koser of Winterset and two sisters, Mrs. Carl Roedell of Shawneetown, Illinois, and Mrs. J. N. Johnson of Mount Vernon, Illinois. One grandson, Koser Enright preceded him in death.
