MRS. CLARA GIFFORD OF TRURO SUCCUMBS

Had Spent Past 35 Years at Her Home Where Death Occurred

Truro--(Special)--Mrs. Clara Bryan Gifford, a resident of Madison county for most of her life, died last Thursday at her home six miles southwest of here, where she had lived for the past 35 years. She was 52 years old.

Mrs. Gifford was the daughter of Ivan King Barnes and Mary Jane Wilson Barnes, and was born at Franklin, Neb., on Dec. 7, 1887.

She was married to Joseph Bryan on March 15, 1905. They were the parents of three sons and a daughter. Mr. Bryan preceded her in death, as did her second husband, Mr. Gifford.

She is survived by her daughter, Mrs. Catherine Doyle of Des Moines, three sons, Thomas Bryan of Des Moines and Earl and John Bryan of Truro; her mother, Mrs. Mary Jane Barnes; three sisters, Ella Lorenzen of Truro, Lou Simpson of Winterset and Misel Abegg of Gary, Ind.; a brother, Ivan King Barnes, Jr., of Truro; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were held from the Kale funeral home Sunday in charge of the Rev. Clayton P. Shepherd, pastor of the Christian church. Burial was made in the Ebenezer cemetery.

Coordinator's note: Transcribed as published. Numerous records, including her 1926 Madison County Marriage Record, show that her second husband was Edward S. Gibford, not "Gifford". He is buried in Kearney, Nebraska and she is buried in the same cemetery as her first husband in an unmarked grave.
