DEATH OF DAN DEHAVEN

St. Charles, September 3 (Special)

Dan DeHaven passed away at the home of his grandson, Nevin Archer, near Rocky Mount, Missouri, after twenty months' suffering from a broken hip. He was born June 12, 1850, and with the exception of a few years, had lived his life in this community.

He came to St. Charles in the early 70's, many years before a railroad came to the town, and later was married to Miss Mary Downs, daughter of an old pioneer farmer of St. Charles. Mr. and Mrs. DeHaven never had children of their own, but many years ago a little homeless girl was taken into their home and raised to womanhood and became the wife of Oscar Archer of Truro, dying a few years later, leaving two small children, and these were also tenderly cared for until they went to homes of their own, and today are Nevin Archer of Rocky Mount, Missouri, and Mrs. Alice Elston of St. Charles.

Mr. DeHaven was always a farmer and operated a threshing machine for forty seasons, and a wood saw for probably as many winters. He was a good neighbor and had a host of friends .

Rev. Margaret Shepard conducted his funeral services at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon and burial was in the St. Charles cemetery, beside his wife, who died 18 years ago. Pall bearers were his nephews, David, Roy, Loy, Kenneth, Carl and Don Downs.
