Word was received here Tuesday evening of the death of Jacob Mayer on that afternoon at his home in Dalton, Nebraska. No information was given as to the cause of his death. Mr. Mayer, who was past 80 years of age, was in Winterset and Madison county the first of the month, visiting relatives and friends. He attended the Old Settlers picnic on Monday, September first.
Mr. Mayer was in the Madisonian office several times this fall and stated that he lived in the west part of Madison county for thirty years. He moved to Nebraska in 1900 and had since made that community his home.
E. W. Mayer of Winterset is a nephew of the deceased; he left Tuesday night for Nebraska. He was a brother-in-law of Mrs. Anna Groves of Winterset.
Funeral services are being held at Dalton this afternoon at 2 o'clock, and burial will be there. He leaves his wife, who was the former Miss Mary Reimuth and four sons, Charles, Henry, Elmer and Ed, all of Nebraska, and three daughters, Mrs. Robt. Wallick of Potter Nebraska, Mrs. Ben Carter of Dalton, Nebraska and Mrs. John Peterson of Lusk, Wyoming.

Jacob Mayer was born in Southofen, Germany, June 11, 1850, and died at his home in Dalton, Nebraska, September 23, 1930, aged 80 years, 3 months and 11 days.
He served in the Franco-Prussian war in 1870 and came to America in 1872 settling at Winterset. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary Reinmuth in 1876. They lived in Adair and Madison counties until 1900 when they moved to Dalton.
He is survived by his wife and seven children. He also has a brother and some sisters residing in Germany.
