Funeral services for John A. Docksteader of Des Moines were held at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home Monday afternoon at two o'clock, and burial was made in the local cemetery.
Mr. Docksteader, who was 77 years of age, was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Adam Docksteader, and was born in Canada, May 30, 1862. The family moved to Iowa City, when the boy was four years of age. Later the family moved to the southern part of Madison county, and he made this town and county his home for a number of years. He was married to Estella Owen, and they were the parents of six children. Mrs. Docksteader died in 1908, and in 1910 he was married to Miss Nellie Beach, who survives him.
Mr. Docksteader was well known in this county, and served as Madison county sheriff for two terms.
The family left here about twenty years ago for Colorado, and later lived in Montana, before moving back to Des Moines. Mr. Docksteader died at the Broadlawns Tuberculosis hospital Friday, after an extended illness.
He is survived by his wife, and four children: Mrs. Bertha Gehrett and Mrs. Bess Price of Laurel, Mont.; Mrs. Maude Harris of Park City, Mont.; Mrs. Kathryn DeVault of Afton; and Erwin Docksteader of Moose Lake, Minn. A daughter Mrs. George Bardrick, preceded the father in death. He also leaves a brother, Joe, of St. Louis, Mo., and two sisters, Anna of Bentonville, Ark., and Mrs. Christine Anderson of Bruns, Wyo.
