Elderly Woman Had Lived in Madison County for 32 Years
Mrs. James Dougherty, elderly Winterset resident, died at her home here Sunday after a fatal illness of 10 days. She was 77 years of age, and had been a resident of Madison county for 32 years.
Mrs. Dougherty was the former Stella M. Porter, daughter of James and Mary Porter, and was born Dec. 29, 1862, in Ohio. She was married to James Dougherty on Jan. 28, 1883, at Whitneyville, Ia. They made their home in Cass county until moving to Madison county in 1908.
She and her husband celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary here seven years ago.
She is survived by her husband; four daughters, Mrs. Pearl Barry of Creston, Mrs. Ida Toland of Lorimor, and Edna and Ola Dougherty at home. One daughter, Ethel Dougherty, died here last year. She also leaves five grandchildren; two great grandchildren; two sisters, Mrs. E. S. Foster of Cumberland and Mrs. Maude Whitehead of Omaha; and a brother, Ben Porter of Massena.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home, in charge of the Rev. J. R. McNichols, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
