Funeral Rites Were Held Sunday From Church of Christ
Mrs. C. F. Clark, member of a pioneer Madison county family, died at her home on West Court avenue in Winterset on Wednesday of last week. She was 73 years of age.
Mrs. Clark was the former Mary Bayer, daughter of Jacob and Emmelene Schuler Bayer, and was born in Sterling, Ill., on July 4, 1867. She came with her parents to Winterset in April of 1872, making the trip here from Des Moines in a box car of the first train that ran over the Winterset line. Since then Winterset had always been her home. Her father owned a tanning factory here for many years.
She was married Oct. 27, 1885, to Caleb Franklin Clark, of the pioneer Clark family here. They were the parents of three children. Mr. Clark died in 1924.
She united with the Methodist church in December of 1880, and was baptized in Cedar creek in July of 1881. She transferred her membership to the Winterset Church of Christ in 1896, maintaining an interest in the activities of that denomination during the remainder of her life.
She is survived by her three children, Mrs. Ada Hoots and Mrs. Lois Hircock of Winterset, and Earl B. Clark of Hollywood, Cal. She also leaves five grandchildren, Carl, Esther and Roger Hircock of Winterset, Raymond K. Clark of Olney Springs, Colo., and John F. Clark of Hollywood; a great grandson, Harvey Alden Clark; two sisters, Mrs. J. W. Imes of Milwaukee, Wis., and Elizabeth Bayer of Mescalero, N. Mex.
Funeral services were held from the Winterset Church of Christ Sunday in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Tom Foglesong, assised by the Rev. L. F. Davis.
