Charles H. Christensen, well known Winterset business man, died at his home on West Jefferson street Wednesday afternoon, July 17, after an extended illness. Mr. Christensen, who was 62 years of age, was a son of Hans and Christena Paulson Christensen. He was born August 14, 1877 in Denmark, where he was christened in the Lutheran faith.
When six years of age, he came with his parents to Independence, where they lived for some time. In May, 1910, he came to Winterset, as superintendent of construction on the first city waterworks system. He was married to Miss Ruth Rogers, May 10, 1911, and they have since made Winterset their home.
Mr. Christensen was in business 26 years, and was a member of both the Knights of Pythias and Masonic orders, a member of the city council for eight years, and fire chief for several years.
He is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Pauline Kuntz and Margaret Christensen, two grandchildren, Margaret Lou and Joan Kuntz. He also leaves two brothers Chris and John Christensen of Independence, two sisters, Mrs. Mary Nelson of Nashua, and Mrs. Emma Gleshler of Dodge Center, Minn.
Funeral services were conducted at the Anderson home for funerals at 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 19th, by the Rev. F. C. McCallon of Osceola and the Rev. Wm. Hahessy. The pall bearers were Warren Benge, Thornton Duff, Hal Vance, Earl Gilbrech, Walter Johnson and Hubert Fosher, and burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
