Harry Chickering of Jackson Township Was Ill But One Week
Harry C. Chickering, well-known young Jackson township farmer, died at the Winterset hospital last Friday after a fatal illness of a week. He was 31 years of age. The nature of his fatal illness had not been definitely established early this week.
He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert J. Chickering, and was born Feb. 5, 1909, near Villisca. His early life was spent in that community, and in 1931 he came with his parents to Winterset. He had since resided in this county.
On Oct. 12, 1935, he was married to Miss Doris Eyerly of Winterset. They were the parents of two children, Marilyn Louise, now 3 years old, and Marvin Wayne, aged 7 months.
In his youth he had united with the Methodist church at Villisca, and after coming here had taken a leading part in the activities of the West Star Methodist church. There he was leader of the gospel team and a teacher of the young people's class.
In addition to his wife and two small children, he is survived by his father, Herbert J. Chickering of Winterset; four brothers, Harley Chickering of Peru, Wayne and Ross Chickering of Winterset, and Jimmie Chickering of Villisca; four sisters, Mrs. Darlene Glasscock of Goshen, Ind., Rose Marie Chickering of Chicago, and Janice and Betty Chickering of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Sunday from the Methodist church here in charge of the Rev. A. P. Keast of Des Moines, formerly of Winterset, assisted by the Rev. Reed Kessler of the West Star church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
