Alfred Turner died on Thursday, April 8th, 1920, at his home in Winterset at the age of 82 years. He was born in Rush County, Indiana on November 12, 1838. He came to Iowa in 1853 and married Isabel Spurgeon on December 25, 1867.
Mr. Turner was a quiet man, but like many men of his type, possessed a broad and loyal acquaintance with people in general.
Besides Mrs. Turner, he is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Ida Patterson of Emporia, Kansas; Miss Rose, of this city, and Miss Effie of Minneapolis; also one son, Herbert of Kansas City, One son, Arthur, lost his life by drowning in 1896.
His church membership dates back for more than half a century, his love and enjoyment of religious matters being strongly evidenced in his life.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Turner home, conducted by Rev. O. P. Bellanger, burial following in Winterset cemetery.

Alfred Turner was born in rush County, Indiana, November 12, 1838, and came to Iowa with his parents in 1853, settling near Murray.
He was married to Isabel Spurgin December 25, 1867 in Madison County, moving to Winterset in 1882 where the family have since resided. To this union were born five children, Mrs. Ida M. Patterson of Emporia, Kansas, Rose M. Turner of Winterset, Iowa, Arthur B. Turner, who died in 1896, Effie S. Turner of Minneapolis, Minnesota, and Herbert Turner, of Kansas City, Kansas.
He died at Winterset, Iowa April 8, 1920, at 2:40 a. m. after an illness of five years. He had been a member of the church of Christ since 1868, and spent over 50 years in the utmost devotion of his faith.
He was the eldest of 10 children, all of whom except one brother, George Turner, of Murray, Iowa preceded him to the life beyond.
Besides his wife and four children he leaves a host of relatives and friends will always cherish his memory.
The funeral services were held at the late home, conducted by his pastor, O’Pierre Bellanger. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
