Death Follows Long Illness for 77-Year-Old Madison County Resident
Nora Allgeyer, member of a well-known Madison county family, died Sunday at the home of her foster daughter, Mrs. Joseph Bruns, on the old Allgeyer home farm where she had spent nearly 65 years of her life. She was 77 years of age.
Nora Barbara Allgeyer was born Jan. 1, 1863, in Mercer county, Ill., the daughter of Charles and Frances Allgeyer. She was the youngest of nine children, six boys and three girls, of whom all except one brother, J. S. Allgeyer, had preceded her in death.
With her family she came to Madison county in a covered wagon when she was four years of age, and resided here until her death. They settled on a farm west of Winterset, and she lived there during her entire life, with the exception of nine years in which she made her home in Winterset with her brother, Edward Allgeyer. After the death of the latter, her health failed, and she went to live with Mrs. Bruns on the home place.
She is survived by her foster daughter, Mrs. Bruns; the one brother, J. S. Allgeyer; and the following nieces and nephews: Mrs. Minnie Wilhelm and Mrs. Virgie Monaghan of Winterset, Mrs. Will Robinson and Will Allgeyer of South Henderson, Ill., and Lloyd Allgeyer of San Diego, Cal.
Funeral services were held from St. Joseph's Catholic church in Winterset Tuesday, with Requiem Mass said by the pastor, the Rev. William Hahessy. The pallbearers were Pat Kirvin, Fred Kuntz, Harvey Clark, C. E. Cain, R. E. Spera, and John N. Hartley.
