IDA MAUDE MCBRIDE

Ida Maude McBride, daughter of Chalmers, O. and Ora (Haxton) Clements was born at Earlham, Iowa, June 26, 1890 and passed from this life on April 28, 1931 at the age of 41 years, 10 months and two days.

She was born on a farm near Worthington and practically all her life has been spent in and near the Worthington neighborhood. She graduated from Earlham high school in 1908 and spent two years in college life; one year at Central Holiness University near Oskaloosa and one year at Simpson college, Indianola.

Perhaps one of the best and most enjoyable years of Maude's girlhood was spent at the Francis home at Indianola, assisting in the care of the old people for whom this home was established by her church. This service followed her year of study at Simpson college. She had often remarked that this home seemed the nearest to heaven of any place she had ever seen.

December 24, 1913, she was married to Charles W. McBride of Earlham. To them were born five daughters, all of whom are living. Opal, Pauline, Maxine, Ruth and Bertha. To this family of children Maude was a real mother. In the words of the scripture "She looked well to the ways of her own household. Hers was a life of Christian service.

Perhaps her Christian spirit is best shown in her affliction of some eight years. Although told by her physician five years ago that her life would be limited to a few years she never showed it by her actions, revealing this knowledge to one of her sisters only recently. Altho she dearly loved life, she considered the matter of passing in an exceedingly calm way, talking with the daughters about plans for their lives and telling of her desires for her family's future.
