Winterset Citizen Succumbs Following Operation at Des Moines
Samuel J. Warren, a resident of in or near Winterset for the past 30 years, died last Saturday at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines following an operation. He was 72 years of age.
Mr. Warren was born near Duncan's Falls, Ohio, on Feb. 8, 1869. When he was 15 years old his father died, and three years later he came to Iowa, settling on a farm in Union county. He later moved to a farm in Scott township of this county, where he lived for many years before coming to Winterset.
On Sept. 4, 1892, he was married to Mary Thurman. They were the parents of three children, all of whom survive. Mrs. Warren died July 6, 1940.
Mr. Warren was a member of the Winterset Church of Christ.
He is survived by the three children, Lester Warren of Lorimor; and Orvie Warren and Mrs. Glee Hircock of Peru; a sister, Mrs. Cora Weter of Lorimor; and a brother, John Warren of Murray. He also leaves seven grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday from the Winterset Church of Christ in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Tom Foglesong. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
