JOHN RYAN DIES

Prominent Crawford Township Farmer Dies at Hospital in Des Moines

John Ryan, one of the substantial citizens of Crawford township, passed away at mercy hospital in Des Moines on Saturday. In his boyhood he received injuries in a runaway, which resulted in varicose veins in his head, and from these he always received considerable annoyance. He at last decided on an operation which resulted as above stated. The direct cause of death was the bursting of a blood vessel in the head.

The deceased was about forty years of age and resided on a farm adjoining that of his mother, and in this neighborhood he was born and raised. He enjoyed the confidence and esteem of the entire community and was well known in Winterset.

The funeral occurred at St. Patrick’s church Monday morning and was attended by a large concourse of sorrowing friends. Father Dugan, lately placed in charge of the parish, conducted the services.

The community was doubly shocked to learn that on Tuesday morning Miss Nora Breem, a niece of the late Mr. Ryan, has suddenly expired. Her remains were laid beside those of her uncle on Thursday morning from the same church. Miss Breem was a young lady of twenty-one years of age, and was highly esteemed by a host of friends. The bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
