Had Engaged in Livery and Feed Business Here for 35 Years
George W. Haymond, for 35 years a Winterset business man, died at the Winterset hospital Sunday after several years of failing health. He was 73 years of age.
Mr. Haymond had lived in Madison county since childhood. He was born at Des Moines on Sept. 15, 1870, the son of George and Catherine Doak Haymond. When he was a small boy the family came to this county, settling in Union township. A few years later they moved to the Macksburg neighborhood, where he was reared.
In 1895 he came to Winterset, where he started in the feed and livery business in which he was engaged for 35 years. He was married to Miss Edith L. Kipp on Dec. 28, 1904. They were the parents of six children, all of whom survive.
About 1930 they returned to the farm, but failing health finally forced him to give that up and four years ago they moved back into Winterset.
He is survived by his wife; the six children, Mrs. Helen Egy and Mrs. Marie Egy of Winterset; Lloyd Haymond of Austin, Texas, Eugene Haymond of St. Charles, Woodrow Haymond of Richmond, Calif., and Mrs. Margaret Welch of Winterset. He also leaves two sisters, Mrs. George Dilley of Kankakee, Ill., and Miss Wray Haymond of Los Angeles, Calif.; and one brother, Douglas Haymond of Kersey, Colo.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. W. A. Samp of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
