His death marks the removal of on of Madison county’s early settlers and best citizens. His life was in accordance with Christ’s teachings as set forth in His Sermon on the Mount. His dealings with his fellow men were ever prompted by sincerity and uprightness. His death marks the close of a noble life.

Death of D. Kinsman

Early Monday morning occurred the death of one of Madison county’s oldest and best citizens in the person of Mr. Denison Kinsman. Mr. Kinsman has been failing for five or six years and for the past three years has been practically helpless. He was an eminently good man in all things. He spent a long life in doing good in the world, both by example and effort. His pure and upright life was an inspiration to all who came in contact with him.

Denison Kinsman was born in Williamstown, Vt. July 6, 1818, consequently lacked but a few days of reaching the ripe old age of eighty-five years. In 1839 he was married to Mary Martin of the same place and to them were born five children, three of whom are still living. In 1855 he moved with his family to Princeton, Ills., where he lived eleven years and during which time he lost his wife and one son. He was married the second time in 1867 to Lora Burnham, who survives him, at Williamston, Vt., whereupon they removed to Douglas township, Madison county, which was his home at the time of his death. He has been an earnest and consistent Christian all his life, having joined the Congregational church in his early youth. On removing to Madison county he joined the First Presbyterian church of Winterset, of which he has been a Presiding Elder for about thirty-one years. He has gone to his well earned rest, but while he has gone his influence remains to do good for all time. The funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Marquis yesterday at the late home after which the remains were brought to town and interred in the city cemetery.
