MRS. MARY HOYT DIES

Mrs. Mary A. Hoyt, aged Winterset resident, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Anna Daniels, Saturday, January 6th, at the age of 81 years. Mrs. Hoyt was the former Mary A. Tripp, a daughter of Anna and Asa Tripp. She was born in Wayne county, New York, August 8, 1852. On September 14, 1870 she was married to Joseph Wm. Hoyt, and they were the parents of eleven children, four of whom died in infancy. Three married daughters, Mrs. Ida Harrison, Mrs. Julia Daniels and Mrs. Delilah Moore preceded her in death. The Hoyts during their early married life, resided near Jefferson. Later they homesteaded in Kansas, and lived for a few years in Missouri and Nebraska. They came to Madison county 37 years ago and have since lived here, with the exception of a few years. Since Mr. Hoyt’s death and her own health had failed, she went to Des Moines to reside with her daughter, Mrs. Daniels.

In 1874 she united with the Seventh Day Adventist church. Elder R. S. Fries of Des Moines conducted her services at the Winterset church, Tuesday afternoon, and burial was made here.

Mrs. Hoyt is survived by three daughters: Mrs. Stella Jackson of Terrill, Mrs. Elizabeth Coon of Houghton, Michigan, Mrs. Anna Daniels of Des Moines, and two sons, Samuel of Sioux Rapids and Asa G. Hoyt of Winterset. She also leaves 32 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
