Winterset Woman Had Been Resident of County Over 60 Years
Mrs. Esther Preston, a resident of Madison county for more than 60 years, died here last Thursday at the age of 87 years.
Mrs. Preston was a native of Wisconsin. She was the former Esther A. Turcotte, daughter of Alexander and Elmira Turcotte, and was born near Lancaster, Wis., on June 2, 1854. She received her education in that community.
In 1874 she was married to John N. Patterson, after which they moved to a farm three miles north of Winterset, which was their home until Mr. Patterson's death in 1911. She then moved into Winterset, which had since been her home.
She was united in marriage to David W. Preston on Jan. 6, 1915. He died about eight years ago.
In early life she joined the Presbyterian church, changing her membership to the United Presbyterian church of Winterset in 1914.
Mrs. Preston is survived by one sister, Mrs. Marguerite Willcutt of LeMars, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home here Sunday, with the Rev. Charles E. Courtney, pastor of the Winterset United Presbyterian church, officiating. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
