Mary Joan Purscell, eight-month-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Purscell, died Saturday at the Winterset hospital following a three-month illness.
Mary Joan was born July 8, 1940. She was an unusually bright and happy baby and brought much joy into the home. In January she contracted pneumonia and in her weakened condition had been exposed to children’s diseases from which she did not recover.
Surviving are her parents, one sister Marilyn, a brother Billy, the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Minear and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Purscell. A little brother, Robert Eugene preceded her in death.

Mary Joan Pursell Succumbs Saturday at Age of 9 Months
Mary Joan Pursell, infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Pursell of Winterset, died last Saturday at the age of almost 9 months. The child contracted pneumonia in January and later was exposed to a number of children's diseases which proved fatal in her weakened condition. The death occurred at the Winterset hospital.
The child was born July 8, 1940. In addition to her parents, she is survived by a sister, Marilyn; a brother, Billy; and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Clay Minear and Mr. and Mrs. Charles Pursell.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon from the Anderson home for funerals, in charge of the Rev. C. E. Courtney, pastor of the United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
