Death of Alexander McCauley

The death of Alexander McCauley of Winterset occurred November 28, here at the home of his son, Dick McCauley. He was 75 years old.

Mr. McCauley was born in Ireland, December 23, 1859. In 1880 he married Rebecca Montgomery, and they were the parents of 11 children, all of whom are living except for one that died in infancy.

Forty-seven years ago Mr. McCauley brought his wife and three children to America. They settled at Altoona, Iowa, and lived there for six years before moving to Madison county, which has since been their home. Mrs. McCauley died 13 years ago. His health failing, Mr. McCauley has made his home for the past three years in Winterset with his children, Dick and Mary of Winterset, and Margaret of Des Moines.

Mr. McCauley was a life-long member of the Methodist church.

Surviving are the 10 children, Thomas McCauley of St. Mary’s, John McCauley of Creston, Mrs. Margaret Stanfield of Des Moines, Mrs. Vesta Sabin of Wallingford, Iowa, James McCauley of Blunt South Dakota, Mrs. Rebecca Francis of Lincoln, Nebraska, Mrs. Elisabeth Krebiehl of Chicago, and Mrs. Mary Graham, Dick McCauley and Theodore McCauley of Winterset. He also leaves three brothers, two sisters, 25 grand children, and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Sunday from Tidrick’s Funeral home in charge of the Rev. H. L. Olmstead. Pallbearers were Dale Stanfield, Ernest Foreman, Gerald McCauley, Harold Johnson, Joe Utsler, and Ray Miller. Burial was at Winterset.

Many From A Distance Attend McCauley Rites

A number of out of town people were here Sunday to attend the funeral services of Alex McCauley, which were held at Tidrick's Funeral home.

The group included the following: Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCauley, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Foreman, Mr. and Mrs. Dale Stanfield, John McCauley, Mrs. Maggie Merrick, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Miller and Mr. and Mrs. W. E. Stanfield, all of Des Moines; Mr. and Mrs. Tom McCauley and sons, Gerald and Donald of St. Mary's; John McCauley and Billie Hickley of Creston; Mrs. George Krebiehl of Chicago.

James McCauley of Blunt, South Dakota, who had been with his father the last ten days of his illness returned home last Wednesday. Mrs. George Krebiehl returned to home in Chicago last Sunday after being called here two weeks ago by the serious illness of her father.
