DEATH OF J. V. McCLURE

J. V. McClure, 69 year old resident of Winterset, died at his home, in the southwest part of town, Sunday evening, May 27th, at seven o’clock. Mr. McClure had not been well the past few weeks, and had returned from the University hospital at Iowa City last Wednesday. Little change was noted in his condition, but a heart attack caused his death.

Mr. McClure would have been 70 years of age, July 26th. He was a son of Alex and Julia McClure and was born in Louisa county. There he spent his youth and he was married to Myrtle Paisley, September 2, 1884. They later moved to Madison county, and lived on several different farms. About twenty years ago, they came to Winterset, where they have since resided.

He leaves his wife and their three children: Mrs. Asa Smith of Dexter, Mrs. Clarence Smith of Earlham and W. P. McClure of Winterset. A brother and two sisters also survive him: Frank McClure of Oregon, Mrs. Emma Caldwell of Flint, Michigan and Mrs. Ella Swan of Morning Sun.

The Rev. L. H. Lanning conducted his funeral services, Wednesday morning, May 30th, at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home at ten o’clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

James Robert Vanatta McClure was born July 25, 1864, and died at his home west of Winterset, May 27, 1934. He was aged 69 years, 10 months and one day.

He was married September 2, 1884, to Myrtle Paisley, at Morning Sun, Iowa. They would have celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in September of this present year.

Besides his widow he leaves two daughters, and one son, to mourn his passing. Mrs. Asa Smith of Dexter, Mrs. Clarence Smith of Earlham, and Wm. P. McClure of Winterset. There are also ten grandchildren and one great grandchild. He is also survived by one brother, Frank McClure, of Forest Grove, Oregon and two sisters, Mrs. W. C. Swan of Morning Sun, and Mrs. Emma Caldwell of Flint, Michigan.

Mr. McClure was the eldest son of Alexander and Julia Ann McClure and has lived practically all of his life in Iowa. He was a member of the First Methodist church of Winterset and also of the I. O. O. F. and Rebekah lodges of Winterset.

Funeral services were held at 10 o’clock on the morning of Decoration day at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home. Rev. L. H. Lanning had charge of the service and was assisted at the grave service by the I. O. O. F. lodge of Winterset. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
