DEATH OF JOHN MARTIN

John S. Martin, life-long resident of Madison county, died at his home in Winterset, Monday, May 7th. He was 79 years old.

Mr. Martin was born September 1, 1854, in Madison county. He was the son of J. G. and Emily Griffin Martin. Death followed an illness of years standing.

Funeral services were held from Tidrick’s Funeral Home at 2 p. m., Wednesday. The Rev. L. H. Lanning had charge of the services. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.

John F. Martin

John F. (S.) Martin was born in Madison county, Iowa, near Winterset on September 1, 1854, and died at his home in north Winterset, May 7, 1934, at 7 a. m. He was 79 years, 8 months, and 6 days.

Mr. Martin was united in marriage with Frances May Smith in Winterset. Seven children were born to them. Mrs. Martin died January 10, 1919.

Mr. Martin was a resident of this county his entire life. During his active years he was engaged in farming and the livestock business. He was a member of the Methodist church having joined with the church under the pastorate of Jackson Giddens.

The children all live to mourn the passing of their father. They are: Mrs. Grace McKinsey of Kansas City, Missouri; Mrs. Stella Martin, Mrs. Bertha Coffin, Ethel and Ralph Martin of Des Moines; Chester Martin of Prairie City and Mrs. Lenore Peacock of Winterset. There are six grandchildren. Link Martin of Winterset, a brother also survives.

The funeral service was held at the Tidrick funeral home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o’clock. Rev. L. H. Lanning pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church having charge. Interment was made in the Winterset cemetery.
