MRS. NANNIE PHIPPS OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Long-Time Resident Died on Monday at Age of 83 Years

Mrs. Nannie Phipps, well-known St. Charles and South township resident, died in St. Charles Monday, Oct. 4th after an extended illness. Mrs. Phipps, who was 83 years of age, had been in poor health for several years and her condition became serious Sunday afternoon.

The deceased was the former Nannie Bradshaw, daughter of William and Ellen C. Bradshaw. She was born on a farm a few miles south of St. Charles, and that farm which she still owns, had always been her home until she moved to St. Charles after the death of her husband.

Mrs. Phipps was born Aug. 16, 1860 and on Oct. 24, 1894, she was married to Robert W. Phipps. They continued to reside on the Bradshaw farm until his death in 1915. In February 1916 his widow moved to St. Charles and this place had since been her home. They were the parents of two daughters, Mrs. Ralph O. Mills of Winterset and Mrs. Walter B. Hart of Portland, Oregon, who survive the mother. She also leaves one brother, Stephen Bradshaw of St. Charles and five grandchildren.

The Rev. John Arnold of Des Moines, a former pastor of the St. Charles Methodist church, conducted her funeral services at the St. Charles church Wednesday, Oct. 6th and burial was made in the St. Charles cemetery.

Mrs. Phipps had been nearly a life-long member of the Methodist church, and attended as long as her health would permit.

Services Wednesday Mrs. Robert Phipps

Mrs. Robert W. Phipps, of St. Charles, lifetime resident of Madison county, died at her home on Monday, October 4 at one o’clock. She was 83 years of age. Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at St. Charles Wednesday afternoon at two p.m. Rev. John Arnold, of Des Moines, was in charge of the service and interment was made at the St. Charles Cemetery.

Nannie Ann Bradshaw was born on August 16, 1860 near St. Charles, Iowa. She was the daughter of William and Ellen C. Bradshaw. She was a member of the Methodist church at St. Charles for many years. On October 24, 1894, she was united in marriage to Robert W. Phipps, of near St. Charles, and to this union were born two daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband who died in September, 1915. She spent her entire life in this county.

She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Ralph O. Mills, of Winterset, and Mrs. W. B. Hart, of Portland, Oregon; five grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
