WILLIAM SHAMBAUGH RITES HELD SUNDAY

Last Rites for Well-Known Farmer Held in United Brethren Church

William E. Shambaugh, a life-long resident of Madison county, died Wednesday of last week at Clarinda after a long period of ill health. He was 72 years of age.

Mr. Shambaugh's life was spent in Jefferson and Lee townships. He was born near Booneville on Sept. 28, 1871, the son of Adam and Mary Jane Shambaugh. He was married to Carrie Newton of Winterset on Oct. 19, 1898. They lived on their farm for 40 years.

Mr. Shambaugh had been a member of the United Brethren church since childhood.

He is survived by his wife; seven children, Mrs. Alvin Meyer of Van Meter, Russell Shambaugh of Houston, Texas, Mrs. Mary Ackerman of Los Angeles, Ralph Shambaugh of the U. S. army, stationed at Heart Mountain, Wyo., Herbert Shambaugh of the U. S. coast guard, Robert Shambaugh of the U. S. army, stationed at Ft. Lewis, Wash., and Phillip Shambaugh of Des Moines. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Lois Castleberry of Houston, Tex., and three brothers, Scott Shambaugh of Houston and Orin and Lloyd Shambaugh of Van Meter.

Funeral services were held Sunday from the Van Meter United Brethren church in charge of the Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines, assisted by the Rev. William Suckow, pastor of the church. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.
