ROBERT F. HICKMAN DIES

Robert F. Hickman, former Winterset resident, died Thursday Dec. 23rd at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Frances Johnson of Omaha, Neb., after a long period of failing health. Mr. Hickman who was 68 years of age was born in Blandinsville, Ill., April 11, 1875.

He later came to Iowa and was graduated from the Drake School of Law and was admitted to the Bar in 1904. He then came to Winterset and was employed in the abstract offices of Hamilton Brothers and Wm. Smalley.

He was married to Miss Addie Peters of Winterset, Oct. 7, 1908. Following their marriage they located in Sidney, Iowa and later in Hamburg, where he engaged in the practice of law. He served his communities in many capacities, including county attorney, city attorney, mayor, member of the school board, etc. He was also a member of the Baptist church.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Frances Johnson of Omaha, a son, Robert F. Jr., of Seattle, Washington and three grandchildren.

Funeral services were conducted in Hamburg by a former pastor the Rev. Mr. Tandy and interment was made Sunday in the Winterset cemetery.

Robert F. Hickman

Robert Fulton Hickman was born April 11, 1875 in Blandinsville, Illinois, in a family of twelve children. At the age of twelve years he was left an orphan and was forced from that time to shift for himself.

By his own energy in the assistance of fine friends, he was able to acquire an education and was graduated from the Drake School of Law and admitted to the bar in 1904.

Soon after he came to Winterset and was employed in the abstract offices of Hamilton brothers and William Smalley. He was married to Miss Addie Peters of Winterset Iowa, on October 7, 1908. Immediately after their marriage, they located in the city of Sidney, Iowa, and later in the city of Hamburg, Iowa, where he engaged in his profession, the practice of law. He served his communities in many capacities including, county attorney, city attorney, mayor, member of school board, etc.

He was a member of the Baptist church and was unfailing in his devotion to it. He was a man of fine Christian character and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, a daughter, Francis Johnson of Omaha, Nebraska; a son, Robert F., jr. of Seattle, Washington, and three grandchildren.

He had been in failing health for about two years and died on December 23, 1943 at the home of his daughter, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were conducted in his home city of Hamburg, Iowa, by a former pastor, Rev. Tandy, and interment was made in Winterset cemetery.
