HAD BEEN MISSING SINCE OCTOBER 29

Soldier in 84th Division, Was Son of Mrs. Inez Adams Here

Pvt. Clayton L. Adams of Winterset, who had been reported missing in action in Italy since Oct. 29, is now listed as killed in action on that day, according to a telegram from the War department, received here Tuesday by his mother, Mrs. Inez Adams.

Private Adams was one of the original veterans of the famous 84th infantry division and had been with that unit through all campaigns in North Africa and Italy.

One of the early Selective Service inductees from Madison county, he went overseas with his division in February 1942. By next February he would have been overseas three years.

Private Adams served as an ammunition bearer in Co. M. 2nd battalion of the 133rd Infantry regiment.

Private Adams was 25 years of age. He was born in Minnesota, the son of Guy and Inez Adams, but came to Winterset with his parents, when he was six months old, and this community remained his home.

He attended the Winterset high school and graduated with the class of 1938. He then worked as a printer for the Winterset News for two years before being inducted into the army.

The young man's father died in 1941. He is survived by his mother of Winterset, two brothers, Milo Adams of Winterset, and Loyd Adams of the U. S. Navy; three sisters, Mrs. Agatha Whiteman of Des Moines, Mrs. May German of Winterset and Lyla Kilmer of Winterset and his aunt Miss Callie Adams with whom he had made his home for six years.
