MRS. H. A. MUELLER OF ST. CHARLES DIES

Committed Suicide At Her Home There Last Saturday

St. Charles--(Special)--This community was saddened last Saturday by the death of Mrs. Herman Mueller, a widely-known resident of St. Charles for many years, who committed suicide at her home here that morning. Mrs. Mueller's health had been failing rapidly lately, and this is regarded as the reason for her act. She was 65 years of age.

Mrs. Mueller was the former Cora Irwin, born July 28, 1875, near New Virginia. Her family moved to St. Charles when she was a girl, and she attended the public schools there, graduating from the St. Charles high school. After teaching school for a number of years, she was married to H. A. Mueller in June of 1909. They were the parents of three children, all of whom survive their mother.

Mrs. Mueller was a member of the Methodist church and the Order of Eastern Star in St. Charles.

In addition to her husband, she leaves the three children: Dr. Byron Mueller of LaHarpe, Ill., Mrs. Catherine Sayre of Des Moines, and Herman Mueller, Jr., of St. Charles; two grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Anna Anderson of St. Charles; and two brothers, Sam and Will Irwin of New Virginia.

Funeral services were held Monday from the St. Charles Methodist church, and burial was made in the cemetery here.

MRS. H. MUELLER DEAD AT AGE 65

St. Charles Resident For Over 50 Years. Funeral Services Held Monday.

Mrs. Herman A. Mueller resident of St. Charles for more than 50 years, took her own life at her home Saturday at the age of 65 years. She moved St. Charles from Warren county in 1889 which has been her home since that time.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o’clock in the Methodist church in St. Charles, conducted by the Rev. Lucius L. Smith, assisted by Reverends Arnold and Kirby. Pallbearers were four nephews, Boyd, Robert and Gerald Anderson and Fon Irwin, and two cousins, Theo and Ray Irwin. Music was furnished by Mrs. Ed Beitzell, Mrs. Kerry Guilliams, Mrs. Mary Crawford and Ben Gleekler, with Mrs. John Arnold at the piano. Burial was made in the St. Charles Cemetery.

She is survived by her husband, three children: Byron Irwin of Laharpe, Ill.; Mrs. Jack Sayre of Des Moines and Herman A. Mueller, Jr., of St. Charles; two grandchildren, Nancy and Thomas Mueller; one sister, Mrs. Anna Anderson of St. Charles; two brothers, William and Samuel Irwin of New Virginia; many nephews and nieces and other relatives.

Cora Irwin, fifth child of Samuel and Isabel Steel Irwin, was born in Virginia township, near New Virginia, on July 28, 1875, and died Jan., At the age of 65 years 5 months and 6 days. Her father was an early pioneer of Warren county and a veteran of the Civil war. Confinement in Libby prison for 20 months impaired his health so that he died at the age of 35. Her mother lived in her home until her death in 1928.

She received her education in the Irish Grove school in Virginia township, and in St. Charles, graduating with the class of 1894. She taught school four years and worked as a clerk in the St. Charles bank four years.

She was united in marriage to Herman A. Mueller, June 30, 1909 and to this union three children were born.

She United with the Methodist church of St. Charles under the pastorate of Rev. W. W. Williams and for many years taught a Sunday school class. She was a member of the Women’s Home Missionary society serving a year as president. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star, No. 174 of St. Charles, over 40 years, serving two years as worthy matron, six years as secretary, ten years as treasurer, just completing her last year of 1940.
