SOL M. STEGALL

On March 17th, 1879, there came to bless and brighten the home of Mr. and Mrs. Freemont and Hannah Stegall at Abingdon, Illinois, a little boy whom they named Sol.

He attended school and grew to manhood near his birthplace but at the age of 26 years he came to Penn Township near Earlham.

In the year of 1906 he was married to Miss Grace G. Cox, following their marriage they lived about a year in Illinois. Returning to Iowa they have lived since that time in Penn township.

Into this newly established home came four sons and one daughter, namely, James R. of Dexter; Glenn of Earlham; Harry living near the old home in Penn township and Lloyd who is somewhere in the Pacific war zone in the U. S. Army and also Goldie who is at home.

Sol never amassed a fortune so far as dollars go, but by hard work and careful management was able to feed, clothe and raise a fine and respected family, which, after all is the important thing in life, and is the foundation of our great nation.

He was honest to a penny and was never too busy to help a friend and neighbor regardless of how hard the job might be.

All that medical science and loving care could do was not enough to prolong his life and he passed away in the early hours of August 21 at the age of 65 years, five months and four days.

Those who will miss him most are his life companion, four sons, one daughter and three grandchildren, besides one brother, Charles, a sister, Mrs. Bess Parker, and Mrs. Lizzie McWilliams, all of Abingdon, Illinois and a host of friends.
