GLENN WEAVER SACRIFICES LIFE

Son of Mrs. Vera Weaver Was Serving With U.S. Navy

The war with Japan struck closest to home in Madison county this week with receipt of the word that Glenn Weaver of Bevington had been killed in action at Pearl Harbor.

The young man's mother, Mrs. Vera Weaver, is the Madisonian's correspondent at Bevington. She received a telegram from the U.S. navy department Monday informing her that her son had given his life for his country, and that his body had not been recovered.

Information as to the ship on which Weaver was serving is being withheld at request of the navy department.

The young man is remembered by many in the eastern part of Madison county. He was 24 years old, and was reared in Bevington, where he attended the Bevington school. After completing eighth grade there, he went to high school at Martensdale for several years before enlisting in the United States navy.

Weaver had been in the navy for five years. On Nov. 1, he had received a specialist's rating as a ship's carpenter.

He was married just a few months ago. His wife is now with her parents at Evansville, Ind.

The sailor is survived by his mother; two brothers, Ralph Weaver of Oakland and Donald Weaver at home; and four sisters, Mrs. Audrey Wise, Mrs. Mildred Lettington, Mrs. Marjorie Butler, and Patricia Weaver.
