CHARLES CLARK OF NEAR PITZER DIES

Funeral Rites Will Be Held Thursday from Church at Pitzer

Charles Clark, a prominent farmer of near Pitzer, died Monday at his home after a long period of ill health. He was 54 years of age.

Mr. Clark was born in Grand River Township of Adair County on May 8, 1886, the son of Mr. and Mrs. A. R. Clark. Most of his life was spent on farms in Madison County near Winterset.

He was a member of the United Presbyterian church at Pitzer and had belong been affiliated with the Knights of Pythias lodge here.

He was married to Lurann Gillespie on Feb. 21, 1912. He is survived by his wife; a son, Kenneth Clark who lives southeast of Winterset; a sister, Mrs. George Bell of Baudette, Minn.; and two brothers in South Dakota, Forest Clark of Howard and Earl Clark of Plankinton.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday from the Pitzer church, in charge of the Rev. Peter Bock of Earlham. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery with the rites there in charge of the Knights of Pythias. Pallbearers will be Gail Finny, George Crawford, Bruce Algreen, Cliff DeVault, George Sulgrove and Alvin Alexander.

Charley Herbert Clark eldest son of Riley and Jane Clark was born in Grand River Township in Adair County, May 5, 1886 and departed this life Monday, Dec. 9th, at the age of 54 years 7 months and 1 day at his home, after a long illness.

His early manhood was spent on a farm in Adair County, where he attended the public schools.

On Feb. 21, 1912 he was united in marriage to Laurana Mae Gillespie. They immediately established their home on a farm in Adair County, where they lived for six years, afterwards moving to Madison County where they resided until his death.

To this union was born one son, Ralph Kenneth.

Besides his wife and son, he leaves to mourn his departure one sister, Mrs. George Bell of Baudette, Minn., two brothers, Earl Clark of Plankinton, S. Dak., Forest Clark of Howard, S. Dak., two nieces and three nephews, other relatives and a host of friends.

He attended church at Patterson and Winterset while health permitted and was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge of Winterset.

Charley had a most pleasing personality, warm friends, and with children he was a great favorite.

One of his outstanding qualities was the fact that he always recognized the good in everyone.
