DEATH OF A. E. EVANS

Alfred Earl Evans, who has been in failing health for some time, died at the U. S. Veterans hospital in Des Moines, Wednesday, August 15th, at the age of 48 years. Mr. Evans was a son of David L. and Elizabeth Thompson Evans, and was born June 9, 1886, near Georgetown, in Monroe county.

His earlier life and boyhood days were spent at Hiteman, and in 1906 he went with his parents to Doniphan, Missouri. In 1911 the family returned to Madison county, and Mr. Evans has engaged in farming since that time, with the exception of his service in the World war. He served with Co. A, 349th Machine Gun company of the 88th division, May, 1918, to June, 1919. Ten months of this time he was in overseas duty.

On March 7, 1923, he was united in marriage with Miss Virginia McDaniel at St. Charles, and one son born to them, who died in infancy.

Mr. Evans has been in failing health for the past seven years, but it was thought that he was improving, when death came unexpectedly.

He leaves his wife, three brothers, T. E. of Elma, George E. of Valley Junction, and David C. Evans of Winterset, and two sisters, Mrs. Mae Packard of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Irene Jones of Winterset.

Funeral service was held at the First Methodist Episcopal church on Saturday afternoon, August 18, at 2 o’clock, Dr. L. H. Lanning having charge of the service, assisted by the Rev. A. R. Weed. Green Rogers Post of the American Legion had part in the interment service at the Winterset cemetery.

ALFRED EVANS DIES SERVICES SATURDAY

Services for A. E. Evans who died August 15 at the Veterans hospital in Des Moines after an illness of seven years, were held Saturday afternoon at two o’clock in the Methodist church, Dr. L. H. Lanning in charge with the Rev. A. R. Weed assisting. The American Legion had part in the burial service at the Winterset cemetery.

Mr. Evans was the son of David L. and Elizabeth Thompson Evans and was born June 9, 1886 near Georgetown. In 1905 the family moved to Doniphan, Missouri, returning to Madison county in 1911 to settle near Earlham. He served with Co. 349th machine gun company of the 88th division and spent ten months overseas.

His marriage to Miss Virginia McDonald took place March 7, 1923. A son David Wesley, is deceased. He leaves his wife, three brothers, T. E. Evans of Elam, George of Valley Junction and David of Winterset; two sisters, Mrs. Mae Packard of Los Angeles, California, and Mrs. Irene Jones of Winterset.
