DAVID P. EGY DIES

President of Farmers & Merchants Bank and Prominent Farmer Died Thursday

David P. Egy, life long resident of Madison county died at the Winterset hospital, Thursday June 28, after an extended illness. Mr. Egy who was 73 years of age was an extensive farmer and stock raiser. During the last year of this life he was active in the organization of the new Farmers and Merchants National bank of Winterset. He was chosen by the stockholders as president of the new bank, and served in that capacity until his death.

Mr. Egy was born on his farm in Madison county, near Winterset, December 15, 1860, and has always made this community his home. His marriage to Mertle M. Rehard took place December 11, 1889 and they were the parents of eleven children, nine of whom survive. Mrs. Egy died January 22, 1932. The children left are Hazel, Claude and Walter at home: Ruth Parcaut of Anthon, Lilly Johnson of Stuart, Martha Cunningham, Roy, Joe and Glenn, all of Winterset. Two sons Hugh and Dean preceded the parents in death.

Fraternally Mr. Egy was an active member of the Masonic lodge Shrine and Order of Eastern star. It is stated that he was a true Mason in spirit as well as in name, being at all times ready to serve fellow members of the lodge or anyone who was in need of his assistance.

The Rev. L. H. Lanning, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church, conducted his services at the church Sunday afternoon, July 1st, at 2:30 o’clock and burial was in the Winterset cemetery.

Harry King, J. W. McKee, H. F. Ilgenfritz, Fred Hartsook, Herman Lewis and Myles Young III served as pall bearers.
