Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Detrick, a resident of Madison county since 1907, died at her home in Winterset last Friday as the culmination of several years of poor health. She was 70 years old.
Mrs. Detrick was born Mary Elizabeth Davis at Hagerstown, Maryland, on March 4, 1863. As a child she came with her parents to Tazewell county, Illinois, where she made her home for a number of years. In 1890 the family moved to Manson, Iowa. There, on December 25th, 1894, she was married to John H. Detrick.
The couple made their home in Manson until 1907 when they came to Madison county.
Two sons were born to Mr. and Mrs. Detrick, Earl D., who died on September 28th, 1919, and Wayne, who survives. John Detrick, died February 22nd, 1922.
In early life Mrs. Detrick united with the Methodist church. She was also affiliated with the Pythian Sisterhood and the Royal Neighbors.
Mrs. Detrick is survived by her son Wayne; five sisters, Mrs. F. C. Dufur of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. U. O. Chambers of Loveland, Colorado, Mrs. Ira Kingery and Mrs. A. C. Reed of Lorimor, and Mrs. Mark Yates of Peru; the four brothers, George, Fred and Ben Davis of Lorimor, and John Davis of Atkins, Minnesota.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a. m. Monday at the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Rev. W. C. Porter, United Presbyterian minister. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
