Mrs. J. H. D. McAllister Died Last Friday at Hospital in Winterset

Van Meter--(Special)--Mrs. J. H. D. McAllister, a long-time resident of Jefferson township, died Friday, Oct. 31st at the Winterset hospital, after only a short illness, at the age of 78 years. The funeral service was held Monday afternoon, at the Van Meter United Brethren church conducted by the Rev. E. A. Elliott of Des Moines, a former pastor, assisted by the Rev. David Thompson of Van Meter.

Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery.

Fannie E. Wilson, daughter of Thomas D. and Jane E. Wilson, was born February 18, 1863 near Banbridge county, Down, Ireland. In 1880 her parents immigrated to the United States with their family, and settled on a farm near Grimes, Polk county, where she lived until her marriage to Joseph H. D. McAllister on Oct. 16, 1884. The couple established their home in Des Moines. In a few years they settled on a farm in Polk county and in the early nineties moved to Jefferson township where they reared their family.

In the fall of 1928, the ageing couple retired to a cottage in Des Moines. After fifty-three years of wedded life, her husband passed to his reward on March 16, 1938.

Eleven children were born to their union. Four preceded their mother in death, Jennie, Mary, Elizabeth and Marion.

She is survived by seven sons: Robert T. of Churdan, Frank J. of Booneville, William J. of Boone, Walter A. of Winfield, Harry L. of Tacoma, Washington, Floyd of Brooklyn, and Clarence J. of St. Paul, Minn.

Mrs. McAllister was the eldest in a family of twelve children. Of this number five have passed on before her. The six that survive her are Robert of Diagonal, Thomas of Ogden, Maggie Rittgers of Ankeny, William of Woodward, Leonard of Graettinger, and Frederick of Grimes.

Besides the seven sons she leaves five brothers, and one sister, and twelve grandchildren.
