DYLE EUGENE LANE DIES

Dyle Eugene Lane, who lived near Earlham, died at the Iowa Lutheran hospital, Sunday, Sept. 7th after a short illness. The young man who was 20 years of age, had been working in Des Moines for six weeks previous to his death. He became ill Sept. 3rd, and was operated upon for a ruptured appendix. Peritonitis had developed and he died late Sunday night.

Dyle Eugene, the seventh child of Mr. and Mrs. T. C. Lane, was born near Winterset, July 9, 1921. He spent most of his life in and around Thayer, until last February when he moved to Earlham. His father, Orva Lane, preceded him in death four years ago.

He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Stella Lane, five brothers, Merl of Winterset, Bud, Phillip and Don of Earlham, and Rex of Des Moines, and two sisters, Mrs. Inez Johnson of Patterson and Mrs. Doris Taylor of Des Moines. He also leaves four nephews and two nieces.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Winterset, last Wednesday at 2:30 o'clock by the Rev. Cecil Latta of Earlham. A men's quartet composed of Glen, Ralph and Earl Clague and Will Price, with Mrs. Ralph Clague serving as accompaniest, furnished the music. The pall bearers were Merl, Bud and Phillip Lane, Perry Knowles of Des Moines, and Bill Black and Ray Thrailkill of Earlham. Burial was made in the Union Chapel cemetery, south of Patterson, at the side of his father.

Dyle Eugene Lane, 20 years old, died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Sunday, September 7, of a ruptured appendix.

Mr. Lane had worked for Chas. Thrailkill for the past several months and also for Woods & Wright. He completed a course recently at the American Technical school in Des Moines and was employed by Bolton & Hay at the time of his death.

Mr. Lane was a vigorous young man in apparent, perfect health. He was only sick two or three days, however, the attending physician stated that the appendix had been broken for seven or eight days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, September 10, at the Church of Christ at Winterset. Burial was made in Union Chapel cemetery south of Patterson.

Dyle Eugene Lane, seventh child of Mr. and Mrs. T. O. Lane, was born near Winterset, July 9, 1921 and departed this life September 7, 1941 at the Iowa Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, at the age of 20 years, one month, and 28 days. His death was due to a ruptured appendix.

He spent most of his life in and around Thayer, Iowa, until last February when he made his home in Earlham. The past six weeks he worked in Des Moines.

Dyle never knew a dark moment. He was always happy whether skies were blue or gray. He was always the one to bring cheer to anyone who might need it. He was a great lover of music. Wherever he went he made a host of friends, never having an enemy.

His father, Orva Lane, preceded him in death four years ago.

He leaves to mourn, his mother, Mrs. Stella Lane, five brothers, Merl of Winterset; Bud, Phillip, and Don of Earlham; and Rex of Des Moines; and two sisters, Mrs. Ines Johnson of Patterson; and Mrs. Doris Taylor of Des Moines; also four nephews and two nieces besides a host of other friends and relatives.

Funeral services were held at the Church of Christ in Winterset at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday with Rev. Latta of Earlham in charge of services. A men's quartet composed of Glenn Clague, Ralph Clague, Earl Clague and Bill Price with Mrs. Ralph Clague accompanying, sang, "The Old Rugged Cross", "No Night There", and "Good Night and Good Morning." Pall bearers were three brothers, one uncle and two friends: Merl, Bud and Phillip Lane, Perry Knowles of Des Moines, Bill Black and Ray Thrailkill of Earlham. Flower girls were: Phyllis and Marjorie Dimel, Geraldine Secrest and Mary Coffman.

He was laid to rest beside his father in the Union Chapel cemetery south of Patterson.
