COLWARD PERRY DIES IN KANSAS CITY LAKE

Former Winterset Youth Was Executive in Motor Dealers’ Code

J. Colward Perry, former Madison county youth and the son of Mrs. Elizabeth R. Perry of Douglas township, met death in the waters of Lake Tapawingo near Kansas City, Missouri late Saturday afternoon, June 23rd. He was 26 years old.

The fatal accident occurred while Perry was swimming with a group of friends. He disappeared into deep water some fifty feet from shore. It is thought that the drowning was preceded by a heart attack. The body was discovered by W. G. Phillips of Kansas City, one of his companions. A pulmotor was used but all attempts at resuscitation failed.

Colward Perry was born in Winterset in 1907. He was reared in Madison county, and was graduated from the Winterset high school with the class of 1925. He was a well-known and popular member of the younger set of this community.

Following his graduation, Perry entered the sales auditing business making his headquarters in Kansas City and St. Louis, for a number of years. He was married last November to Miss Marion Robertson, daughter of Dr. and Mrs. T. M. Robertson of Coffeyville, Kansas. The young couple made their home in Kansas City. This year Perry was named to the post of code administrator for the Kansas City Motor Dealers’ association.

The deceased is survived by his wife of Kansas City, his mother, an aunt, Miss Alice Rogan, and three uncles, Charles, James and Waldron Rogan, all of Madison county.

Those accompanying the body to Winterset were his wife, Mr. Phillips, Dr. and Mrs. Robertson and Miss Roberta Robertson of Kansas City.

Funeral services were held in St. Joseph’s Catholic church in Winterset on Tuesday, June 26th, in charge of Father Peter McStay. Burial was made in the Stringtown cemetery.
