FORMER BEVINGTON RESIDENT IS DEAD

Elijah Calvert Williamson, formerly of Bevington, died at his home in Conger on July 23, according to information received here this week. He was 87 years of age.

Mr. Williamson was a native of Indiana, but came to Madison county with his parents when he was 4 years old. He was reared here but left the county as a young man to work on the railroad. In his later years he returned to Bevington to work as a blacksmith.

Elijah C. Williamson

Elijah Calvert Williamson, the son of Nancy Ellen Noble and John Williamson, was born October 10, 1853 in Madison county, Indiana, and died at his home in Conger July 23, 1941, having attained the age of 87 years, 10 months and 13 days.

Together with his parents he moved to Madison county, Iowa, at the age of four. Here he spent his youth and received what education he could. As a young man he followed the occupation of an engineer and firemen on the railroad. His work later took him to Perry, where he worked in the pumping station. He was also employed by the Iowa Loan and Trust Company for a number of years. In his later years he was a blacksmith in Bevington.

He was united in marriage with Terry Evans in the year 1878. To this union six girls and one boy were born, Virgie dying in infancy. He was devoted to his family. He joined the Methodist church during his sojourn in Perry.

His wife died in 1893 and was married again to Sadie Trowe in 1912 and spent his last years in Conger.

He is survived by his wife and six children; Nellie Umanthum of Des Moines; Ethel Thompson of Hollywood, California; Annie Sellers of Des Moines; Katherine Nits of Conger; Edith Wildes of Corydon and George Williamson of Chicago, Illinois; also a sister, Mrs. Anna King of Sac City and two brothers, and Williamson of Des Moines and Frank Williamson of Oakland, California; besides many relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held on July 25 at the Wick church, the Rev. E. W. Mueller of Martensdale officiating. Burial was made in the Wick cemetery.
