Dies Following Operation in Des Moines; Was 72 Years Old
John R. Datwyler, one of this county's most widely known farmers, died last Saturday at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines. He was 72 years of age and had been in failing health for some time. Death was caused by heart failure following an operation.
Mr. Datwyler was born in Livingston county, Illinois on Jan. 1, 1872. He came to Madison county in 1908 and for 35 years lived on a farm in Walnut township. Last spring he had moved to a farm in Madison township.
Mr. Datwyler was married Dec. 15, 1903 to Leona Vannatta. They were the parents of seven children, one of whom, a son, died at the age of five months. The surviving children are Mrs. Edna Wolverton of Winterset, Carl and Wilson Datwyler of Peru, Mrs. Velma Struve of Manning and Laura and Irene Datwyler at home. He also leaves nine grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Peru Methodist church in charge of the Rev. Arthur Henry and Frances Harris. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
