JOHN GRAHAM BIRD SUCCUMBS SUDDENLY

Last Member of Prominent Family Dies at Home Near Patterson

John Graham Bird, a long-time resident of the Patterson neighborhood, died Saturday from a heart attack while doing the evening chores.

Mr. Bird had been in poor health for a year or more, but was feeling well and had been in Winterset on the day of his death.

He was the son of Butler and Mary Graham Bird, who were early settlers in this county. His death marks the passing of the last member of the Bird family.

Mr. Bird was married in September of 1893 to Grace Blosser, who with two sons, are the remaining members of the family. The two sons, Kenneth and Butler Bird, reside in California.

Funeral services were held Wednesday from Anderson's home for funerals in Winterset, in charge of the Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the McGinnis cemetery near Patterson.

GRAHAM BIRD DIES SATURDAY

Funeral Services Held Wednesday For Last Member of Pioneer Family.

Graham Bird, last member of a pioneer family died at his farm home south of Patterson Saturday morning at the age of 71 years. He had been in ill health for the past six weeks but his death came as a shock to his family as he had not been bedfast.

He was the son of Butler and Mary Byrd, born March 21, 1879 near Winterset. In 1893 he was united in marriage to Grace Blosser and they were the parents of two sons, Kenneth and Butler.

He lived in Des Moines for twenty years where he was in business as a shoe merchant. Following his retirement he moved near Patterson where he resided up to the time of his death. While in Des Moines he became a member of the University Church of Christ.

Besides his wife he is survived by his sons who both live in Los Angeles California, and a host of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at the Anderson funeral home conducted by the Rev. L. F. Davis. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
