Long-Time Resident Passes at Patterson at Age of 96 Years
James A. Gillogly, one of the oldest residents of Madison county, died at his home in Patterson Tuesday, October 14th at the age of 96 years. He had made his home in or near Patterson for the past 70 years.
James Asbury Gillogly, a son of John and Rachel Gillogly, was born at Libertyville, Jefferson county, Iowa, January 24, 1845. He came to this county with his parents in 1871 and settled on a farm one-half mile east of Patterson. In 1874 he was married to Miss Sara Jane Bell and they were the parents of six children, all of whom survive. Mrs. F. P. Henderson of Indianola, Roy, Clyde and Gertrude Gillogly of Patterson, Mrs. Charles Herron of Macksburg, and Willis A. Gillogly of Canal Zone.
Since the death of Mrs. Gillogly on April 6, 1939, he has made his home in Patterson with his sons, Clyde and Roy, and daughter Gertrude. He leaves one sister, Mrs. Samuel Blosser of Patterson and five grandchildren: Mrs. Harry Mamanny of Chicago, Mrs. Herschel Davis of Minneapolis, Mrs. George King of Macksburg, Mrs. Walter Hawkins, of Canal Zone, and Robert Herron of Macksburg. He also leaves seven great grandchildren.
Mr. Gillogly united in membership with the Methodist church in Patterson, in 1889. His funeral services were conducted at that church last Friday afternoon by the Rev. J. H. Machian, and the Rev. L. F. Davis. The pallbearers were R. W. Stout, John Potter, C. A. Stout, Earl Mead, Curtis Howell and Denver Johnson, and burial was made in the Montpelier cemetery.
